Shooter Detection Systems Receives Third International Government Certification for Homeland Security and Anti-Terrorism Technology

Australian Government authority awards the Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection System with the country’s maximum-security rating for high risk attacks

Rowley, Massachusetts – October 5, 2018 – Shooter Detection Systems (SDS), the world’s leading gunshot detection solutions provider, today announced that the Australian Government’s Security Construction and Equipment Committee (SCEC) has awarded the Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection System with a Security Level 4 (SL4) Certificate of Approval, the highest security rating obtainable for security equipment in the country.

The SCEC is a committee responsible for the evaluation of security equipment for use by the Australian Government departments and agencies. The committee reports directly to the Protective Security Policy Committee (PSPC), established by the Australian Government to develop guidelines for the protection of Australian Government resources. The SCEC product evaluation program prioritizes the evaluation of high security products in “Good, Better, Best” categories based on risk profiles from SL1, basic equipment offering minor resistance against low risk attacks, to SL4, products offering substantial resistance against sophisticated attackers.

Carrying the SL4 certificate rates the Guardian System as a product that will offer the highest level of security against high risk attacks perpetrated by assailants with expert-level abilities to carry out attacks with catastrophic outcomes, such as a single active shooter or coordinated terrorist attack involving firearms.

“After providing gunshot detection systems to the military for over a decade, our approach to commercializing the indoor technology was to maintain that same level of quality and bring the market a high-performance zero false alert solution at a commercially viable price point,” said Ron Fowler, SDS’ Chief Technology Officer. “Our Fortune 500 customers have certified the Guardian System after rigorous network and performance testing. With thousands of systems performing successfully in the field, adding Australia to our rising list of international certifications gives customers yet another point of confidence as they continue the global expansion of their gunshot detection projects.”

Following the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s SAFETY Act Certification and the U.K. Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure’s Approval for U.K. Government Use, Australia marks the third government homeland security authority to certify Guardian at the highest level.

“Our history began by protecting our troops against sniper fire with Boomerang since the beginning of the global war on terror,” said Christian Connors, SDS’ Chief Executive Officer. “As we continue our expansion into international markets seeking anti-terrorism technologies, we are proud to be working again with these partner countries to assist them in their efforts to combat threats to those at risk in everyday locations across the globe.”

SCEC approval will list the Guardian product in the Security Equipment Evaluated Product List (SEEPL). The SEEPL is a register of security products that meet criteria to guide Australian Government agencies in finding the top security products for use in protecting their people, information and assets.
