Shooter Detection Systems Wins 2022 ASTORS Award

American Security Today honors SDS with its third major 2022 award win as a Platinum finalist in their U.S. Homeland Security Awards Program at ISC East

Shooter Detection Systems, an Alarm.com (NASDAQ: ALRM) company and the leading provider of gunshot detection solutions to schools, governments, and commercial businesses, is pleased to announce that they have received American Security Today’s 2022 ASTORS Platinum Award for the category of “best gunshot detection solution.”

The Annual ASTORS Awards Program is specifically designed to honor distinguished government and vendor solutions that deliver enhanced value, benefit, and intelligence to end-users in a variety of government, homeland security, enterprise, and public safety vertical markets. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which came out in force to the ASTORS Awards ceremony at ISC East in New York City this November, to discuss comprehensive collaborations between private and public sectors that have led to developing intelligence and technologies which serve to protect our nation.

Diane Sabatino, Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations delivered the keynote address speaking to the latest technologies systems protecting our borders and homeland. AST was joined by Former Police Commissioner William Bratton, NYPD Chief of Department Kenneth Corey, FDNY Assistant Chief Joseph Jardin, a contingency of CBP Officers, FDNY members, and the NYPD Technical Assistance Response Unit (TARU) unit, who each spoke about the importance of technology and policing, and how technology advances our united goals for homeland security and community safety.

SDS’s Indoor Gunshot Detection System differs from other indoor detection solutions because unlike systems that listen for gunshot-like noises, SDS’s patented design uses two-factor validation technology – both acoustic and infrared – to provide the highest accuracy available. All gunshot processing is done at the edge inside the sensor, meaning that no audio needs to leave the sensor for further processing. This feature alleviates privacy issues that are sometimes raised as a concern with the rise of public safety surveillance technologies.

Earlier this year SDS received awards for Best Gunshot Detection System and Best New Product of the Year from leading security publications. “It’s been an incredible year for us,” said Kendra Noonan, Director of Communications for Shooter Detection Systems. “Receiving three industry awards this year only reinforces what we and our customers already know – that SDS is the go-to solution for gunshot detection.”
