Former FBI Expert Jin Kim Joins Shooter Detection Systems

Mr. Jin Kim brings decades of knowledge as the FBI’s top active shooter subject matter expert to help the company raise awareness around gun violence issues and smart security solutions.

Shooter Detection Systems (SDS), an Alarm.com (NASDAQ: ALRM) company, welcomes former FBI Special Agent Jin Kim, a 23-year veteran of the FBI’s New York Division, as a member of the SDS Advisory Board and the company’s Active Shooter Subject Matter Expert.

Mr. Kim is widely known as an expert in his field, with an understanding for the seriousness of the active shooter problem from decades of research and focus on the subject. While at the FBI, Kim served as the Active Shooter Coordinator on the Crisis Management Unit and was the leading authority in all active shooter substantive matters and as principal liaison for the FBI’s private sector programs and corporate partnerships.

As the security industry’s leading supplier of gunshot detection solutions for buildings of all kinds, SDS works with education, business, government, healthcare, manufacturing, and other customers to deliver smart, sensor-driven active shooter detection solutions to reduce response times during active shooter incidents. Mr. Kim will help SDS raise awareness around gun violence issues and how smart technology solutions like gunshot detection will help save lives in active shooter incidents by increasing the situational awareness of building occupants and first responders simultaneously, so all parties can act accordingly when every second counts.

“As the adoption of our technology grows, customers are seeking more education and guidance about their active shooter response plans as a whole,” said Rich Onofrio, Managing Director for SDS. “As the leading expert in this field, Jin will play a key role in helping us and our customers understand the active shooter problem and how gunshot detection technology is an essential solution.”

Mr. Kim is the Founder and Principal Practitioner of the PerSec Academy & Advisory Group, a consultancy specializing in active shooter and workplace violence risk management and training. As part of the FBI’S Police Training and Liaison Program, Mr. Kim served as the Director and Principal Instructor of three specialized tactical response programs: The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) School; The Executive Protection / PSD Counter Assault Team (CAT) School; and The Observer / Sniper School, respectively. Mr. Kim proudly served as both a certified FBI Tactical Operator and Observer / Sniper on the FBI’s Special Weapons & Tactics Enhanced Team. His career also included numerous international deployments in support of the FBI’s global investigative mission and war on terror.

“It is with great honor to serve on SDS’s advisory board,” said Kim. “Supporting the SDS mission-focused team, comprised of industry leading professionals – whose singular goal is to save lives – is a privilege I am beyond proud to uphold.”
