Shooter Detection Systems' Gunshot Detection System Earns Fourth Consecutive Secure Campus Award
August 18, 2026
The award recognizes innovative outdoor gunshot detection technology that helps extend active threat protection across campus environments
Shooter Detection Systems (SDS), an Alarm.com (NASDAQ: ALRM) company, has earned its fourth consecutive Campus Security Today Secure Campus Award, this time for its SDS Perimeter Outdoor Gunshot Detection System which was recognized in the Fire/Life Safety category.
Over the past four years, the Secure Campus Awards have recognized SDS’ indoor and outdoor gunshot detection solutions across multiple categories, reflecting the growing role gunshot detection plays in comprehensive campus safety strategies. This year’s recognition for the SDS Perimeter Outdoor Gunshot Detection System in the Fire/Life Safety category highlights how active threat detection has evolved into an essential component of emergency response planning.
According to the FBI, open space was the single largest location category for active shooter incidents in the United States over the five-year period from 2020 to 2024, accounting for 41% of all incidents. In 2024 alone, that figure rose to 50%.* For campus security teams, that means a significant and growing share of threats originate before a shooter ever reaches a building. SDS Perimeter was designed to close that gap, extending active threat detection and communication across parking lots, stadiums, courtyards, entrances, and other open-air spaces.
“Earning this recognition for the fourth consecutive year reflects how seriously campus security professionals are taking the threat that exists beyond building walls,” said Kendra Noonan, Director of Communications for Shooter Detection Systems. “Organizations are increasingly integrating it into broader life safety and emergency response strategies to help reduce response times and provide first responders with the critical information they need during an active shooter event.”
Originally developed through a U.S. Department of Homeland Security-sponsored initiative, SDS Perimeter was designed to address one of the most significant gaps in campus security: detecting gunfire in outdoor environments and stopping threats before they reach a building.
